Gleyber Torres and Jeffrey Baez continued to pound the baseball for South Bend while Rashad Crawford also heated up at the plate. Myrtle Beach ran their winning streak to six games. It was not a good end to the week for the Cubs’ affiliates as the five teams in play could manage only two wins in nine games. Myrtle Beach had a memorable comeback thanks to the hitting of Chesny Young and the pitching of Jonathan Martinez. The only other win came in Venezuela, as the V-Cubs received a good debut from 17-year old Freddy Tineo. South Bend struggled with Lansing as Cael Brockmeyer provided the only highlight. The 20th season of the Arizona Fall League (AFL) kicked off on Tuesday. The Cubs have seven players and coach Brian Harper on the Mesa Solar Sox roster. Javier Baez, Matt Szczur, Rubi Silva, Kevin Rhoderick, Tony Zych and Nick Struck have seen action in the first two days. Dae-Eun Rhee is the only Cubs' prospect yet to play. The 2011 MLB First-Year player draft took place last week and the Cubs selected players in all 50 rounds. The Cubs made Javier Baez their first round pick with the ninth overall selection in the draft.
