Cubs Convention Day Two: The Owners, the Management and Remembering Ronnie

Day two of the 26th Annual Cubs Convention was filled with information and fond memories of Ron Santo. The Ricketts Family Forum led off the day and Jim Hendry, Mike Quade and Randy Bush answered question after question on the current team as well as the plans for the future. Tom Ricketts announced the team will wear #10 patches to honor Ron Santo throughout the 2011 season. The Cubs tribute will also include a statue of Ron Santo set to be unveiled on August 10. Winter Meetings Day Two: Cubs Close on Carlos Pena?

Updated - 12/8/10 - 1:00am CT - The Cubs are close on a one-year, $10 million deal with Carlos Pena. Multiple reports early Wednesday morning indicated the Cubs had agreed to terms on a one-year deal with Carlos Pena. According to the Sun-Times, the deal is close but not done and could be made official after a Wednesday morning meeting with Scott Boras. Cubs Quiet … but the Rumors are a Riot

The Chicago Cubs are not making any headlines right now but the rumors continued to surface on Tuesday. Bruce Levine thinks the Cubs will be active during the meetings and the next 10 days should at least be interesting. The countdown to Lake Buena Vista has begun ... and the rumors and activity throughout baseball picked up after the long holiday weekend. The Cubs continue to be linked to the same players, with a few exceptions. Jesse Crain joined the list of relievers the Cubs are looking at this winter. Scratch Eric Wedge and Ted Lilly off the list of possibilities for the Cubs this winter ... and beyond. Eric Wedge officially became the new manager of the Seattle Mariners on Monday, reuniting him, for now, with Milton Bradley ... and Ted Lilly agreed to terms with the Dodgers on a new three-year deal over the weekend, a formal announcement is expected on Tuesday. … [Read more...]

After trading Ted Lilly and Ryan Theriot to the Dodgers last Saturday, Jim Hendry mentioned the Cubs roster would get younger in the coming weeks. Hendry said the team would be calling up players in two waves from the minors. Casey Coleman and Thomas Diamond were called up Monday and more appear to be on the horizon. According to multiple reports, Ted Lilly and Ryan Theriot have been traded to the Los Angeles Dodgers for Blake DeWitt and two minor league pitchers ... Brett Wallach and Kyle Smit. The Cubs sent $2.5 million along with Lilly and Theriot. Blake DeWitt will be added to the Cubs 40-man roster.
