The Cubs added to the International bonus pool on Tuesday when they traded minor league infielder Ronald Torreyes to the Houston Astros for two of Houston's international slots (No. 2 and No.3) worth $784,000. Torreyes was acquired from the Reds along with Travis Wood and Dave Sappelt for LHP Sean Marshall. The Cubs made three deals on Tuesday, all of which included international slot money. As expected, the organization began shuffling players around the system this past week. Several players received promotions and recent draft picks made their pro debuts while one of the top prospects in the organization ended up on the disabled list. New faces in new places marked the beginning of the week. Daytona continued to be the hottest team in the Cubs’ system. The D-Cubs improved to 5-1 in the second half and Pierce Johnson made his first High-A start. Jacob Hannemann is starting to flex his muscles for Boise, while P.J. It was reported that sportswriter Ring Lardner would sing “I’m forever blowing ballgames” to the “Black Sox” during the storied World Series. That seemed to be an appropriate tune with the way the week ended down on the farm as losing leads ran rampant through the organization. From top to bottom, the Cubs’ affiliates experienced an interesting end to the week. Not only did Junior Lake make his Triple-A debut on Thursday but Iowa split their four games thanks to a three-home run game from Ian Stewart. Tennessee went into a tailspin and lost four straight. Daytona was limited to one game due to a tropical storm, and Kane County took three out of four as the bats of Jeimer Candelario and Albert Almora led the way.
