Javier Baez is 8-for-18 in five games with two doubles, two home runs, two walks and eight strikeouts (.444/.476/.889/1.365). Friday was an incredibly busy day around Major League Baseball. While the Padres were busy trading for all … [Read more...]

The Daily CCO: Cubs Trying to Find the Right Media Deal

October 17, 2014 8:30 am By Neil 7 Comments

Crane Kenney addressed and fielded questions last Friday during meetings with the season ticket holders about the status of the team’s media rights deal. Kenney said the team was “in extra innings” on its television rights negotiations for 2015 and beyond. A number of potential partners have emerged, all with interest in long-term relationships of at least 15 years and as much as 30 years. “The big part of the media rights is what is going to happen in 2019,” Kenney said. “We get half of … [Read more...]

Rambling About the Cubs as the Dog Days Begin

August 1, 2014 12:05 am By Brian McCabe 51 Comments

Hello again, everybody. It is August 1, and I must say, I think Theo Epstein and Jed Hoyer had themselves quite a July. They added multiple players to the farm system’s top-20 list while promoting many of the big names to their respective next level. The dog days may begin in August, but Cubs fans should not be worn down. It probably won’t happen next year, but the future is starting to get louder, and as Lollapalooza kicks off today, I am all about a loud Chicago. So let’s get down to some … [Read more...]

The Tanaka Watch Continues and Other Cubs News and Notes

December 21, 2013 12:01 am By Neil 91 Comments

Despite the reports on Thursday morning, the Rakuten Golden Eagles have not made a decision on whether or not they will post Masahiro Tanaka this winter. Most still think he will be made available to Major League teams this off-season, but it is pretty clear that no one, not even Tanaka, knows at this point. Yozo Tachibana indicated on Thursday the team is still discussing the matter internally, but promised on Friday the decision would not be delayed much longer. Masahiro Tanaka is doing his … [Read more...]

Hollandsworth, Otto and Possibly Coomer in the Mix for Cubs Radio Gig

November 15, 2013 10:00 pm By Neil 5 Comments

WGN and the Cubs are in the process of finding a replacement for Keith Moreland in the Cubs’ radio booth alongside the great Pat Hughes. A report earlier in the week indicated eight former Cubs and Andy Masur were on the shortlist to fill the vacated spot. At the time, Mark DeRosa was thought to be the frontrunner, especially after he retired from baseball the next day. DeRosa took a job with the MLB Network which left Rick Sutcliffe, Kerry Wood, Dave Otto, Ryan Theriot, Doug Glanville, Todd … [Read more...]

Pitching, Pitching … and Other Cubs News, Notes and Rumors

October 26, 2012 12:10 am By Neil 10 Comments

Early indications are that the Cubs will focus on adding pitching this off-season. Theo Epstein said earlier this week that the Cubs will add at least two starters to go along with Jeff Samardzija, Matt Garza and Travis Wood. Epstein indicated that Garza is progressing as the Cubs had hoped and he should be ready to pitch when Spring Training begins. The Cubs are going to build the 2013 rotation without Arodys Vizcaino but they are hopeful he is able to force his way into the rotation. The Cubs … [Read more...]

The Beginning of a Long Off-Season for the Cubs

The off-season has begun for the Chicago Cubs. While the playoffs are underway and the focus throughout the game is on some set of games in late October, the Cubs remain focused on the future and building an organization with sustained success.
