Cubs left-handed pitching prospect Manuel Rondon takes home award for top pitcher in the Northwest League Manuel Rondon turned in an excellent season with Short-Season Class-A Eugene and Tuesday the 21-year old left-hander was named the Northwest League Pitcher of the Year. As we head into the final weekend of the minor league regular season, the Cubs affiliates were still able to excite. Eugene looked to add to their record season on the pitching of Dylan Cease and Manuel Rondon. It was a busy weekend and the pitching staff of Eugene led by Dylan Cease, Bryan Hudson, and Manuel Rondon dominated. South Bend’s starters Preston Morrison, Casey Bloomquist, and Kyle Miller were also in top form. Cubs Acquire LHP Manny Rondon, International Slot Money from Angels for C Rafael Lopez
The Cubs acquired minor league left-handed pitching prospect Manny Rondon and International slot number four ($149,700) from the Los Angeles Angels on Friday for catcher Rafael Lopez. Rafael Lopez, 27, was designated for assignment on June 27. Lopez batted .276/.333/.340 (43-for-156) with eight doubles, one triple and no home runs for a .673 OPS with 17 RBI in 46 games with Iowa this season.
