The Iowa Cubs reduce their magic number to one but come up short in their first chance to clinch. Two Cubs minor league managers are named the Manager of the Year for their respective leagues. One Cubs minor league skipper is ejected from a game in the first inning. Three Tennessee Smokies are named postseason All-Stars. Several Cubs prospects are a part of Minors "Moniker Madness". Tony Campana and Robinson Chirinos have been swinging hot bats. In Iowa, Samardzija and Chen made good starts but Mathes did not. Not only is it All-Star week for Major League Baseball, but many minor league festivities and games took place this week that allowed top prospects from each club to take the field together. With the Futures Game history, Hak-Ju Lee and Brett Jackson have rejoined their respective clubs. A handful of Smokies helped the North to a win in the Southern League Midsummer Classic. It was a busy weekend throughout the Cubs organization. Many of the top prospects have been promoted, including Brett Jackson, and some have already joined their new clubs! The Smokies have won the first half title! The Iowa Cubs have closed the gap in the PCL American Northern division with a very strong week. The 2010 MLB First Year Player Draft is in the books. The Cubs made a surprise first round selection when they picked Hayden Simpson, a right handed pitcher out of a Division II school, with the 16th overall pick. Game Nineteen - Cubs 1 Reds (ss) 1 - 10 Innings WP - None LP - None Save - None Lou Piniella's B-Team played to the Reds to 1-1 tie in Goodyear on Sunday afternoon. Carlos Silva started the game but lasted only two innings. Silva was lifted for a pinch-hitter in the third. Reports during the game indicated Silva left the game with a tender right quad.
