The Eugene Emeralds, the Short-Season Class-A affiliate of the World Series Champion Chicago Cubs, had a good year. MiLB.com released its Cubs Organizational All-Star Team. And it is headlined by four of the top position-player prospects in the system. Ian Happ, Eloy Jimenez, Jeimer Candelario and Donnie Dewees stayed on their individual player plans this past season. The playoffs continued for the Cubs’ affiliates as two teams advanced to their league finals and one went home. Yeiler Peguero was instrumental in Eugene winning their divisional playoff and Game 1 of the Northwest League Championship. The Cubs took two of three in Houston and won a series on the road against a team fighting to make the playoffs. The Cubs became the first team to 90 wins on Friday behind Jon Lester and a two-run homer from Kris Bryant. The offense broke out in Sunday’s finale and put a nine-spot on the board before the Astros tried to make a game of it. RHP Dylan Cease, LHP Manuel Rondon named Northwest League Year-End All-Stars The Northwest League announced its postseason All-Star team this past week. Two of Short-Season Eugene’s starting pitchers made the list, RHP Dylan Cease and LHP Manuel Rondon. And Jesus Feliciano was named the manager of the Year-End All-Star team. Cubs’ Class-A Short-Season affiliate Eugene Emeralds defeats Hillsboro Hops to advance to Northwest League Finals The Eugene Emeralds advanced to the Northwest League Finals late Friday night with a 2-1 victory over two-time defending champs Hillsboro Hops.
