November 15, 2013 10:00 pm By Neil 5 Comments

WGN and the Cubs are in the process of finding a replacement for Keith Moreland in the Cubs’ radio booth alongside the great Pat Hughes. A report earlier in the week indicated eight former Cubs and Andy Masur were on the shortlist to fill the vacated spot. At the time, Mark DeRosa was thought to be the frontrunner, especially after he retired from baseball the next day. DeRosa took a job with the MLB Network which left Rick Sutcliffe, Kerry Wood, Dave Otto, Ryan Theriot, Doug Glanville, Todd … [Read more...]

Rambling About the Cubs as the Dog Days Are Upon Us

August 9, 2013 12:10 am By Brian McCabe 75 Comments

As the season trudges on, and thoughts of 2014 fill my head, it is hard to describe the current installment of the Chicago Cubs.  The names, faces, trades and waiver moves come together to make one random story of a season.  With less than two months to play, it is hard to imagine the Cubs will get to 100 losses, but if another Samardzija start ends in 12 runs for the opponent … who really knows. So let’s get to it. … [Read more...]

The Cubs Don’t Have Unlimited Assets to Deal … and Other News and Notes

November 8, 2012 4:05 am By Neil 45 Comments

The GM Meetings are underway in Indian Wells, California and the Cubs are "still in the stage of figuring out what opportunities will be there" for them. According to a report from the Tribune, it appears the Cubs will be filling their needs this winter with free agent signings rather than trades. Theo Epstein said Wednesday that the Cubs "do not have a ton of fits with 25 of the other 29 clubs." The Cubs will continue to pursue all avenues but Epstein indicated they will likely focus on the … [Read more...]

November 4, 2012 12:30 am By Neil 38 Comments

With free agency underway and the General Managers meetings in California during the coming week (November 6-9, Palm Springs), there figures to be a lot of news and even more rumors throughout the game over the next seven days. While activity might be at a minimum, the GM Meetings have historically set the tone for future trades. The Cubs are looking to add at least two starting pitchers, an outfielder and possibly a third baseman and backup catcher. It also appears that the Cubs are trying to … [Read more...]

November 1, 2012 12:15 am By Neil 20 Comments

Rosters for Saturday's AFL Rising Stars Game were released on Wednesday night. Two of the Cubs' prospects participating in the Arizona Fall League were named to the East Division team, but only one has a chance to play in the annual event. Tony Zych and Javier Baez made the East squad after solid starts to the fall league. Baez will not be able to participate due to breaking his thumb last Saturday but Zych should pitch out of the pen.
