The Unofficial Opening Day … It’s Time for the Cubs Convention

January 13, 2012 12:59 am By Neil 57 Comments

Harry Caray referred to it as the "unofficial opening day", some refer to it as the "kick-off to spring training", call it what you want but the bottom line is baseball is just around the corner. The 27th Annual Cubs Convention officially begins this afternoon at the Hilton Chicago. Pat Hughes will once again have the honor of introducing the Cubs past, present and future during the Opening Ceremonies but this convention will be a little bit different than previous years. Theo Epstein, Jed … [Read more...]

Rambling about the Comeback, yet the Reality

July 8, 2011 1:00 am By Brian McCabe 16 Comments

Don't call it a comeback!! Holy wow. It was fun to be a Cubs fan last night. Yes, you read that right. It was fun to be a Cubs fan. It reminded me of 1989. The Cubs were down 9-0 to the Houston Astros. The game was out of reach and a run away from the "mercy rule." And then some Walton, Smith, Grace and McClendon, and the next thing I know, Jerome Walton is scoring the 10th run in the 10th inning to win 10-9. What was the score last night? Right, 10-9. The 1989 Cubs won the division. … [Read more...]

Rambling While Worrying About Who’s Playing First

With just over 90 days until pitchers and catchers report, the hot stove is about to step it up to a strong simmer before the full-blown boil of the Winter Meetings in Lake Buena Vista, Florida. Some refer to it as Disney World. During Hendry's tenure, the Cubs have been players in the off-season, but with many assuming 2011 is going to be a wash, fans are hoping the water is nothing more than room temperature. With all of those analogies off of the table, it is time for me to unleash my … [Read more...]

Rambling About a Below Average Baseball Team

May 11, 2010 1:30 am By Brian McCabe Leave a Comment

The Chicago Cubs baseball team is not good. Yes, I know, I am very observant. Watching this team lose five of six games to the Pirates and Reds caused the type of emotional pain normally reserved for the end of a romantic relationship. That is how bad it felt. I wanted to break up with the Cubs. But ... I just can't quit them. I am going to ramble today. It is not going to be pretty, and it won't be much fun. I am not very happy, and I have plenty to say. So ... here goes ... … [Read more...]
