Anthony Rizzo and Darwin Barney are in the running for the defensive honor after excellent seasons in the field. Cubs Interview Renteria, Martinez Excited about Opportunity
As expected, the Cubs interviewed Padres’ bench coach Rick Renteria for the managerial opening on Monday in California. Theo Epstein and Jed Hoyer reportedly flew to San Diego to conduct sit down with Renteria, who is recovering from hip surgery. Renteria is expected to be fully recovered by Spring Training. Cubs Reportedly Prepared to Make Joe Girardi an Offer
Jon Heyman reported Wednesday night that Brian Cashman met with Joe Girardi and his agent, Steve Mandell, earlier in the day in New York and the Yankees’ GM made Girardi an offer to stay with the Yankees. According to Heyman’s report, Girardi countered with "some parameters" and the two sides agreed to meet again on Thursday.
