It has become a week for big hitter as home runs seem to be flying out at will. South Bend welcomed Kevin Encarnacion back as he hit a towering blast. Tennessee got an unexpected power surge from Wes Darvill. And the Iowa Cubs are simply feasting as Christian Villanueva, Matt Szczur, Arismendy Alcantara, and Javier Baez all went deep. The downside was the Myrtle Beach went into a losing streak. But don’t worry as it is only two games while Jeimer Candelario remains red hot. Along with … [Read more...]

May 22, 2015 1:00 am By Tom U. 4 Comments

It was not a good end to the week for the Cubs’ affiliates as the five teams in play could manage only two wins in nine games. The only other win came in Venezuela, as the V-Cubs received a good debut from 17-year old Freddy Tineo. South Bend struggled with Lansing as Cael Brockmeyer provided the only highlight. Tennessee dropped two and had a scary incident with Bijan Rademacher … [Read more...]

MLB Pipeline released its prospect team on Monday. And the three Cubs received the weekly honor. 3B Kris Bryant, 1B Dan Vogelbach and C Kyle Schwarber grabbed three of the 10 spots. Which as Jim Callis said should not come as a surprise because the Cubs “have the best collection of young hitters that baseball as seen in years.” Kris Bryant is still considered a prospect and according to Jim Callis, “no prospect performed better during the week of May 11-17 than Bryant” and he put up the … [Read more...]
