The Cubs announced the latest round of roster cuts Friday. The Cubs cut nine non-roster invitees from the spring roster, including Albert Almora Jr., Matt Murton, Ryan Williams and John Andreoli. The Cubs reduced the Spring Training roster by 11 players prior to Friday’s game with the White Sox. And with Friday’s cuts, the Cubs’ spring roster officially stands at 45 players. C Willson Contreras, INF/OF Arismendy Alcantara, RHP Carl Edwards Jr., RHP Pierce Johnson and LHP C.J. One of the players making the biggest noise in camp this spring is non-roster invitee John Andreoli. The 25-year old outfielder leads the Cubs in longballs this spring. Andreoli hit his fourth on Thursday night and he’s making quite the impression on Joe Maddon and the coaching staff. The Cubs announced the second round of spring roster cuts on Monday. The Cubs cut seven players from the Spring Training roster, which officially stands at 56 players. The Cubs made a roster move prior to Thursday’s exhibition game versus the Seattle Mariners. The Cubs released left-handed reliever Rex Brothers. With Thursday’s roster move, the Cubs’ 40-man roster officially stands at 39 players and the Spring Training roster was trimmed to 62 players.
