Cubs clinch best record in National League, home field advantage throughout NL playoffs The Cubs shut out the Cardinals 5-0 on Friday afternoon. Jake Arrieta dominated the high-flying Redbirds offense, allowing just five singles and one walk while striking out 10 in seven innings. The Cubs inched closer to one of the team’s goals. The Cubs reached the first goal of the season when they clinched the NL Central Division title. And Friday the Cubs were able to celebrate the franchise’s first division crown in eight years after Miguel Montero hit a walk-off homer in the bottom of the 10th inning to beat the Brewers 5-4. The Cubs clinched a division title and on Friday afternoon the entire team was able to properly celebrate being the National League Central Division Champions. The Cubs scored two runs in the ninth and walked off the Brewers in the 10th inning on an opposite field shot from Miguel Montero. The Cubs are the National League Central Division Champions. The Cubs clinched the division late Thursday night after the Cardinals lost 6-2 to the Giants. The Cubs plan to celebrate the team’s first division title in eight years, win or lose, after Friday’s game.
