With Javier Baez back in the line-up, things are now clicking for the Iowa Cubs as a healthy John Andreoli has also been a big boost to the offense during a four game winning streak. Heroes came from unlikely sources as Myrtle Beach was spurred to victory by home runs from Trey Martin and Carlos Penalver, meanwhile Adbert Alzolay came out of the pen for Eugene to deliver a no-hit performance. The ball continues to fly down on the farm. Eloy Jimenez went yard for Eugene while the reigning Midwest League Player of the Week, Jeffrey Baez, kept finding holes. And Erick Leal tossed a gem for South Bend. Chesny Young extended his on-base record and helped Myrtle Beach extend its winning streak. And a grand slam from Cael Brockmeyer did not hurt. Cubs Announce Signing OF Ian Happ, and Nine Draft Picks
The Cubs made it official Thursday. The team announced the signing of first round draft pick, OF/2B Ian Happ. The Cubs did not disclose the terms of his contract. According to multiple reports, the Cubs signed Happ for $3 million. The slot allotment for the No. 9 pick in the draft was $3,351,000. Cubs Weekend Headlines: Rumors, Draft Signings, Extra Innings and Walk-Off Wins
The Chicago Cubs had a long and very good weekend. Two of the three games with the Reds were decided in extra innings with a lengthy rain delay setting up the first of two walk-off wins. Cubs Sign Tenth Round Pick SS Vimael Machin
According to the draft tracker on MLB.com, the Cubs signed SS Vimael Machin. The Cubs selected Machin in the tenth round out of VCU in last week’s draft. And according to the draft tracker, Machin is the second player to sign an under-slot deal. The Cubs inked Machin for $2,000 which is $150,000 less than the $152,000 pick value for the Cubs’ tenth round selection. Cubs Sign Seventh Round Pick RHP Craig Brooks
According to a report from the Salisbury Post, the Cubs have signed RHP Craig Brooks. The Cubs selected Brooks in the seventh round of this week’s draft. Brooks was drafted Tuesday and by Wednesday he had signed his contract according to the Salisbury Post and he will report Monday to the Cubs’ facility in Mesa.
