Phillies Trade Chase Utley to Dodgers for a Pair of Prospects

The rumored trade between the Phillies and Dodgers was officially announced Wednesday night. The Phillies sent Chase Utley and cash to the Dodgers for INF Darnell Sweeney and RHP John Richy. The Phillies reportedly included $4 million of the $6 million owed to Utley in the deal. According to a report from Howard Eskin, Phillies’ GM Ruben Amaro Jr. told SportsRadio 94 WIP in Philadelphia Tuesday morning that Chase Utley is “likely to be with the Phillies for the rest of the year.” As Jim Salisbury pointed out Amaro Jr. also said the same about Cole Hamels before he was traded to the Rangers. And if he approves a trade out of Philadelphia, many are expecting a deal to be completed before the Phillies begin a short, two-game homestand Tuesday with the Blue Jays. According to multiple reports, the Cubs are one of at least six teams still in the mix for Chase Utley. According to multiple reports that were confirmed by GM Bobby Evans, the Giants made the Phillies an offer for veteran second baseman Chase Utley. According to reports from Ken Rosenthal and Jim Salisbury, Chase Utley cleared waivers and can be traded to any team. The Cubs are one of a handful of teams expected to make a run at Chase Utley. Updated 7:42am CDT, Aug. 11 – The Cubs, Giants and Yankees had scouts at Monday night’s game in Phoenix to watch Chase Utley according to Jim Salisbury.
