As the season moves into the second half, some stories remain the same. Kane County continues to struggle winning games while Tennessee and Daytona keep rolling along. Iowa is still hovering around .500, as are the AZL Cubs, but Boise found trouble winning north of the border. While the Boise Hawks slipped a little last week, four of the Cubs’ eight affiliates have stayed in first place. Iowa used some offensive explosion from Luis Flores and Logan Watkins.  Boise saw the debut of second round draft pick Rob Zastryzny, while Kane County and Tennessee struggled. Cubs Down on the Farm Report – 07/08/13

Nothing could overshadow the big news out of the minors to end this week as Javier Baez was promoted to Double-A Tennessee. Pierce Johnson had his best start with the D-Cubs that helped keep Daytona on track. Cubs Make Changes to 40-man Roster … and Other News, Notes and Rumors

The Cubs made seven changes to their 40-man roster on Tuesday night and added a big arm to the minor league system. The Cubs announced that Bryan LaHair was DFA'd, right-handed pitcher Carlos Gutierrez was assigned to Triple-A Iowa and right-handed pitcher Jacob Brigham was traded back to the Texas Rangers. Cubs Add Four to 40-Man Roster, DFA Bryan LaHair and Acquire RHP Barret Loux from the Rangers

The Cubs announced several roster moves Tuesday evening prior to the deadline to set the 40-man roster in order to protect players from the Rule 5 Draft. The Cubs designated Bryan LaHair for assignment. According to multiple reports, LaHair appears to be close to signing a contract to play in Japan. The Cubs outrighted RHP Carlos Gutierrez off the 40-man and assigned him to Triple-A Iowa. According to multiple reports, the Cubs made four 40-man roster moves on Thursday. The Cubs outrighted RHP Marcos Mateo, RHP Miguel Socolovich, RHP Jason Berken and infielder Adrian Cardenas off of the 40-man roster and assigned them to Triple-A Iowa. The moves free up four spaces on the Cubs' 40-man roster which currently stands at 37 players.
