Cubs Down on the Farm Report – 07/27/15

July 27, 2015 12:05 am By Tom U. 1 Comment

It was a pretty good start to the week for some pitchers from the 2014 draft class. Lefty Tommy Thorpe is not thriving in the rotation for South Bend, while Brad Markey was blowing hitters away for Myrtle Beach. Austyn Willis also had a good outing for the AZL Cubs, and Ryan Williams kept rolling for Tennessee. Theo Epstein said, “Outfield is probably one area where we’re most focused if we were going to add a significant or semi-significant piece the rest of the way. I don’t feel like we have the depth of quality outfielders that we have in certain other areas of the team, so you could see something there.” And Jed Hoyer added, “We are still working on … [Read more...]

November 12, 2014 8:15 am By Neil 16 Comments

Before reports hit the wire the Cubs were in talks with the Nationals for Jordan Zimmermann and working on a deal with Justin Masterson, rumors continued to swirl around the Chicago Cubs at the GM Meetings. Jed Hoyer provided an update Tuesday on Starlin Castro and according to a report from Patrick Mooney, Castro has recovered from his season-ending ankle injury. Castro was scheduled to take a couple of weeks off before reporting to the Cubs facility for rehab in mid-October. Hoyer said … [Read more...]
