Cubs Skipper Search in the Final Stages?

The Cubs managerial search took a step forward this week when the top candidates met with Cubs' Chairman Tom Ricketts. Multiple reports indicated Mike Quade, Ryne Sandberg and Eric Wedge have had formal interviews with Ricketts ... and a report from Carrie Muskat stated that Bob Melvin also met with Ricketts to discuss the Cubs' job. Updating the Cubs Managerial Search … and Brenly to the Brewers?

What began as a rumor on Twitter picked up a little steam on Wednesday afternoon. A tweet from Doug Russell of WSSP indicated Bob Brenly is close to becoming the Brewers' new manager. Brenly told Russell "he has nothing to say right now." WSSP is the flagship station for the Milwaukee Brewers. The Brewers have denied the report and stated they have not begun the process of interviewing managers to replace Ken Macha. Sandberg Interviews for Cubs Job

Carrie Muskat reported Jim Hendry met with Ryne Sandberg on Tuesday in Arizona about the Cubs' managerial position. Following a report from Bruce Levine Tuesday night that indicated Sandberg would receive an interview over the next few days, Muskat confirmed Hendry met with Sandberg on Tuesday. Hendry has already interviewed Eric Wedge, the former Indians manager, and is expected to discuss the Cubs' job with Pat Listach, Bob Melvin and Bob Brenly.
