Cubs and Red Sox Not Worrying About Compensation for Epstein

Compensation packages for Theo Epstein, Jed Hoyer and Jason McLeod were expected to be settled with the Red Sox and Padres after Thursday's Rule 5 Draft. The Cubs are still expected to send a lower level minor leaguer to San Diego for Hoyer and McLeod but that compensation was not announced ... and neither was the package for Theo Epstein. Ryne Sandberg wanted to manage the Chicago Cubs four years when Lou Piniella received the job. Sandberg had no managerial experience and agreed to work his way up the ranks in the Cubs system. Sandberg reported to Peoria for the 2007 season. After two years riding the buses in the Midwest League, Sandberg took over the Smokies in 2009 and this season he is calling the shots for the Iowa Cubs. Only one day until the Cubs Convention.... Jim Hendry made news on Wednesday with the signing of Jon Lieber and at the same time increased the speculation on what else he may or may not have up his sleeve. Most reported the Cubs signing of Lieber as "you can never have enough pitching" and thought it was "a low-risk signing."
