Put all that anticipation of September call-ups on hold as the Iowa Cubs are back in playoff contention with a weekend sweep thanks to John Andreoli, Javier Baez, and newcomer Emilio Bonifacio. Tennessee also is on a roll, wining five straight with fine pitching from Andres Santiago and Pierce Johnson. Big wins and big comebacks highlight the end of the week as Jeffrey Baez remains one of the hottest players in the system for South Bend. Myrtle Beach had two walk-off wins thanks to the heroics of Jason Vosler, Danny Lockhart, and Mark Zagunis. Tennessee used the combination of Ryan Williams and Willson Contreras to throttle arch-rival Birmingham, and Chris Valaika keyed a comeback win for Iowa. Cubs Release Minor Leaguers RHP Nick Struck and OF Reggie Golden

According to Baseball America, RHP Nick Struck and OF Reggie Golden were among the minor league players released prior to the end of Spring Training as the front office assembled the minor league rosters. Nick Struck was the Cubs’ Minor League Pitcher of the Year in 2012 after posting a 14-10 record in 28 games, 26 starts, for Double-A Tennessee with a 3.18 ERA and a 1.18 WHIP.
