Reports Pointing Toward Rick Renteria Being the Cubs Next Skipper

November 6, 2013 12:20 am By Neil 41 Comments

If the timeframe reported on Monday night was correct, the Cubs’ front office should find out at some point on Wednesday if Boston will grant them permission to interview Torey Lovullo for their managerial opening. The decision made by the Red Sox ownership to deny Lovullo a shot at a big league skipper’s job raised a lot of questions about Boston’s organization. And while the Sox are sticking to the agreement reached by both teams more than two years ago, the overall public perception of the … [Read more...]

June 13, 2013 12:05 am By Tom U. 12 Comments

All eyes seems to have turn to Daytona at the start of the week as Javier Baez looked to claim his spot as the top prospect in the system with a four home run night. The D-Cubs also showed off their speed by stealing ten straight bases in a doubleheader on Sunday. Kane County went into a three game nose dive, while Tennessee’s offense continued to sputter.  Iowa won two in a row with fine relief pitching from Eduardo Sanchez, Michael Bowden, and Casey Coleman. Along with recaps from the … [Read more...]

From top to bottom, the Cubs’ affiliates experienced an interesting end to the week. Not only did Junior Lake make his Triple-A debut on Thursday but Iowa split their four games thanks to a three-home run game from Ian Stewart. Tennessee went into a tailspin and lost four straight. Daytona was limited to one game due to a tropical storm, and Kane County took three out of four as the bats of Jeimer Candelario and Albert Almora led the way. To find out more, check today’s Down on the Farm. … [Read more...]

As the minor league seasons approach the midway point the All-Star squads for the Midwest and Florida State Leagues have been set with several Cubs’ prospects named to their respective rosters. Kane County continues to battle to reach the .500 mark while Daytona rides great pitching from Austin Kirk, Ben Wells, and Frank Del Valle to push their record to two above break-even.  Tennessee is now a season high five games over as Kyle Hendricks, A.J. Morris, and the top of their batting order … [Read more...]

The Draft is Around the Corner … and Other Cubs News and Notes

June 4, 2013 12:40 am By Neil 52 Comments

As Theo Epstein has said, the most important day for the Chicago Cubs is just 48 hours away. The 2013 first year player draft begins on Thursday and the Cubs are in a position where they cannot afford to miss with the second pick in the draft. Most feel the Cubs will take one of the highly touted pitchers. But if the Cubs pass on Mark Appel or Jonathan Gray, the Cubs could land power hitting third baseman Kris Bryant, who many think could end up in one of the corner outfield spots. And third … [Read more...]
