Voice of the Cubs, Pat Hughes named Illinois Sportscaster of the Year
The best radio play-by-play man in baseball received another award on Monday. Pat Hughes has been named the 2018 Illinois Sportscaster of the Year by the National Sports Media Association.
“I’d like to dedicate this award to three special co-workers,” said Hughes in a statement. “The Operations Director of 670 The Score, Mitch Rosen, also the Executive Producer of Cubs Radio. And, to my two very talented and congenial booth partners, Ron Coomer and Zach Zaidman. Those three men have a great deal to do with this award.”
This is Hughes’ 12th Sportscaster of the Year honor and his ninth in Illinois, having previously won the award in 1996, 1999, 2006, 2007, 2009, 2014, 2015, and 2017. Hughes was honored as the Wisconsin Sportscaster of the Year three consecutive years ending in 1992.
Pat is entering his 24th season as the Radio Voice of the Cubs, and his sixth year with Coomer. The 2019 season marks his 37th consecutive season as a Big League broadcaster.
Chicago Cubs Baseball Is (almost) On The Air!
Pat is simply the best and should be inducted into the Hall of Fame in the very near future.
