It’s a New Year … Happy 2019!

Happy Two Thousand Nineteen to the Cubs Faithful!

I just wanted to take a minute to tell everyone Happy New Year. It is really difficult to wrap my head around the fact it is Twenty-Nineteen. In some ways it seems just like yesterday we were all preparing for Y2K. And nearly 20 years has passed.

It has been a rather challenging two years for me. I appreciate all of the messages and notes I’ve received checking on me. I cannot say enough how thankful and grateful I am despite the difficulties life has presented. I truly believe I am on back on the right path.

I am excited about the new chapter of my life that is about to begin.

As for the Cubs, the front office has a lot of work to do before pitchers and catchers report to Mesa in roughly 42 days. Will Theo Epstein and Jed Hoyer clear enough payroll by trading Jason Heyward and/or Tyler Chatwood to add an impact bat to the lineup? Will Bryce Harper sign with the Cubs? Or will Epstein and Hoyer decide a player like A.J. Pollock is a better fit? How will the Cubs improve Joe Maddon’s bullpen? Will the front office trade Ian Happ or Albert Almora Jr. for an impact, late-inning reliever or two? And then there’s the big hole, and questions, about Maddon’s coaching staff.

The Cubs have the talent to put together another 90-plus win season and compete with the Cardinals and Brewers for a division title. With that said, the Cubs have to get their collective swagger back in order to play deep into October.

Have a happy, healthy and prosperous New Year.
