Cubs claim LHP Ian Clarkin off waivers, again, from the White Sox
The Cubs claimed left-handed pitcher Ian Clarkin off waivers from the Chicago White Sox on Wednesday. The White Sox had claimed Clarkin off waivers from the Cubs on Nov. 26, 2018 after the Cubs had originally claimed him from the White Sox on Nov. 20.
Clarkin, 23, was a first round draft pick (33rd overall) by the New York Yankees in 2013 and has gone 18-24 with a 3.55 ERA (138 earned runs in 349 2/3 innings) in 81 minor league appearances (66 starts) covering five seasons in the Yankees (2013-14, 16-17) and White Sox (2017-18) organizations. He joined the White Sox as part of the seven-player trade that sent Todd Frazier and David Robertson to the Yankees on July 18, 2017.
The 6-foot-2 southpaw went 4-5 with a 4.76 ERA (45 earned runs in 85 innings) in 25 appearances (12 starts) last season across three levels of the White Sox minor league system, reaching Double-A for the first time in his career.
The Cubs 40-man roster now stands at 39 players.
