According to Ken Rosenthal, the Cubs “are in strong pursuit of free-agent infielder Daniel Descalso.” Descalso is coming off a mediocre year with the Diamondbacks. The lefty hitting utility man batted just .238/.353/.436 with 22 doubles, four triples and 13 home runs for a .789 OPS. Descalso set career highs in OBP, home runs and OPS.
The former Cardinals and Rockies infielder turned 32 in October.
Over his nine-year career, Descalso owns a .240/.324/.370 line with 121 doubles, 24 triples and 46 home runs for a .694 OPS.
