Jon Lester named NL Pitcher of the Month … Javier Baez awarded with NL Player of the Week Award
Two of the Cubs that are having very good seasons for Joe Maddon’s team took home awards on Monday.
LHP Jon Lester was named National League Pitcher of the Month for June. And INF Javier Baez, one of the most exciting players in the games, took home the National League Player of the Week Award.
Lester is providing very good results this season. Lester is 11-2 in 17 starts with a 2.25 ERA and 1.15 WHIP. Lester has allowed 31 runs, 25 earned, on 80 hits with 35 walks and 79 strikeouts in 100 innings.
For June, Lester was 5-0 in five starts with a 1.13 ERA and 0.84 WHIP. Lester allowed four runs, all earned, on 17 hits with 10 walks and 20 strikeouts in 32 innings.

Baez is batting .290/.326/.567 with 21 doubles, six triples and 16 home runs for a .892 OPS in 80 games this season. This past week, Baez hit .483 with a 1.363 OPS. Baez had eight extra basehits, scored 10 runs and collected 11 RBI.

Jon Lester and Javier Baez, along with Albert Almora Jr., should represent the Cubs in the Midsummer Classic later this month at Nationals Park.
