Cubs activate RHP Carl Edwards Jr. from 10-day DL … LHP Rob Zastryzny activated from DL, optioned to Iowa … RHP Dillon Maples sent back to Triple-A Iowa

The Cubs made three roster moves prior to Friday’s disappointing loss to the Reds. The Cubs activated RHP Carl Edwards Jr. from the 10-day disabled list. To make room on the 25-man roster for Edwards Jr., RHP Dillon Maples was optioned to Triple-A Iowa.

The Cubs officially activated LHP Rob Zastryzny from the DL and optioned the lefty to Iowa. Zastryzny pitched Thursday night for the Iowa Cubs.

Carl Edwards Jr., 26, was placed on the 10-day disabled list on May 30 with right shoulder inflammation. He made three rehab appearances with Triple-A Iowa as part of his return (0-1, 9.00 ERA), most recently pitching on Wednesday in Nashville and allowing no runs on one hit and a walk with one strikeout in 0.2 innings pitched.

Dillon Maples, 26, has gone 2-2 with five saves and a 3.20 ERA (nine earned runs in 25 1/3 innings) in 26 relief outings with Iowa this season. He has no record and a 16.88 ERA (five earned runs in 2 2/3 innings) in two big league relief appearances this year.

Rob Zastryzny, 26, was placed on the 10-day disabled list with a back strain on June 24. He is 1-0 with a 1.69 ERA (one earned run in 5 1/3 innings) in five relief outings with the Cubs this year and 2-1 with a 3.86 ERA (15 earned runs in 35 innings) in 18 relief appearances with Iowa, including one Triple-A rehab outing on Thursday night in Nashville (one inning, zero runs).
