Cubs activate RHP Tyler Chatwood … RHP Dillion Maples sent back to Triple-A Iowa

The Cubs made two more roster moves prior to the finale of the four-game series at Dodger Stadium. The Cubs activated RHP Tyler Chatwood from the paternity list. To make room on the active roster, RHP Dillion Maples was optioned to Triple-A Iowa.

With Yu Darvish dealing with pain in his right arm, the Cubs announced LHP Mike Montgomery (Friday), RHP Tyler Chatwood (Saturday) and LHP Jon Lester (Sunday) will start the three-game series at Wrigley against the Twins.

Tyler Chatwood, 28, was placed on the Paternity List, June 25. He has gone 3-5 with a 3.95 ERA (30 earned runs in 68 1/3 innings) in 14 starts for Chicago this season. Chatwood last pitched June 19 against the Dodgers, allowing one run on two hits in five innings. In seven major league seasons with the Angels (2011), Rockies (2012-14, 2016-17) and Cubs, he has gone 43-51 with a 4.27 ERA (340 earned runs in 716 innings) in 144 games, including 127 starts.

Dillion Maples, 26, pitched two-scoreless innings on Wednesday night in his first appearance with the Cubs this season. He allowed no hits and struck out three batters, while walking two and hitting one batter. In 26 outings at Iowa this season, he has gone 2-2 with five saves and a 3.20 ERA (nine earned runs in 25 1/3 innings) in 26 relief outings.
