Cubs Host Twins, Tigers and Reds During Upcoming Homestand

June 28, 2018 6:42 pm By Neil Leave a Comment

Cubs to host Minnesota Twins (June 29-July 1), Detroit Tigers (July 3-4) and Cincinnati Reds (July 6-8) … Eight-game homestand to include July Fourth Celebration, second Chef Series, Fire Dog Pizza, Two Kids Sundays and fun promotional items

The Cubs will host an eight-game homestand featuring Interleague visits from the Minnesota Twins June 29-July 1 and the Detroit Tigers July 3-4. Following the Interleague matchups, the Cincinnati Reds will close out the homestand with a three-game series July 6-8.

The Cubs will join Major League Baseball in celebrating the Fourth of July. The team will wear special stars and stripes jerseys, caps and socks on both Tuesday, July 3, and Wednesday, July 4. The bases used on the field July 4 will feature specialty base jewels. Several game-used jerseys from this series will be authenticated, collected and auctioned by Cubs Authentics at www.cubs.com/authentics. Net proceeds from the auction benefit Cubs Charities’ Diamond Project.

The Fourth of July game also will feature “Military Heroes Day” presented by Magellan Corporation. The Military Heroes Day will have an extended pregame ceremony featuring an oversized American flag displayed on the field and a military “Take the Field” experience. Up to the first 10,000 fans will receive a Cubs Camo Cap presented by Magellan Corporation.

The Cubs are teaming up with Third Man Pressing to offer fans an exclusive Vinyl Record Ticket Package for the Cubs-Reds game Friday, July 6, at Wrigley Field. Fans who purchase a ticket to the July 6 game through the special offer will receive a limited-edition, 7-inch vinyl record featuring Eddie Vedder’s “All the Way” and Steve Goodman’s “Go, Cubs, Go.” For more information and to purchase tickets, visit www.cubs.com/vinyl.

Highlights of the homestand follow.

Food and Beverage Offerings:

The Chicago Cubs and hospitality partner Levy are bringing back their crowd-pleasing Chef Series presented by Maker’s Mark for a second year with an expanded lineup of local celebrity chefs. Fans can expect a dynamic menu of offerings inspired by the chefs’ signature items and their take on ballpark favorites.

This homestand, Tony Mantuano, a James Beard Award-winning chef and partner of Michelin-starred Spiaggia, River Roast and Terzo Piano, will serve stellar spins on Italian classics during his Chef Series debut June 29-July 8 at the Sheffield Corner near the Wintrust Right Field Gate.

The following menu items will be served during his rotation at Wrigley Field:

  • Zucchini arancini with tomato basil sauce
  • Grilled mortadella steak on focaccia bread with giardiniera, provolone and mayonnaise
  • Luganega sausage on a potato bun with roasted onion and peppers and arugula
  • Watermelon salad with pecorino cheese, candied pistachios, controne pepper, mint, lemon juice and olive oil
  • Maker’s Mark Boulevardier: Bourbon with Campari and sweet vermouth

Hot Doug’s continues its rotating selections on Platform 14, located behind the center field scoreboard in the Budweiser Bleachers. Served this homestand are the Paul Wedeen, a Roman luganega sausage with marinara, sautéed peppers and mozzarella cheese; the Les Lancaster, a beef and pork Thuringer sausage with beer mustard, caramelized onions and cheddar cheese; and the Rick Reuschel, a spicy Vienna Beef sausage with jalapeño mustard, pepper jack cheese and crispy fried onions.

To help celebrate National Hot Dog Month, Giordano’s Pizza is once again teaming up with Vienna Beef to create the ultimate Fire Dog Pizza. This year’s hot dog pizza has a Hot Doug’s twist. The pizza will consist of spicy Vienna Beef Polish sausage, caramelized onions, pepper jack cheese and topped with crispy fried onions. The Fire Dog Pizza will only be available July 3-8 located at the Giordano’s Pizza stand by Aisle 103.

Cubs Charities and Community Events:

Cubs manager Joe Maddon will once again support Chicago nonprofit organizations through his “Respect Community” charity T-shirt initiative. After every Friday home game, Maddon will represent a different Chicago nonprofit by wearing the organization’s T-shirt during his postgame press conference. Joe Maddon’s “Respect Community” shirt Friday, June 29, is the Chicago Public Library Summer Learning Challenge, a city initiative aimed at encouraging kids to read and learn throughout the summer. On Friday, July 6, Maddon will represent The Mission Continues, a national nonprofit organization that empowers veterans who are adjusting to life at home to find purpose through community impact.

Starting Saturday, July 7, Cubs Wives will be selling baskets filled with favorite items from Cubs players. The baskets will be sold in the concourse near the Gallagher Way Third Base Gate, from gates open through the seventh inning, as well as online. The online basket auction will launch Sunday, July 8, and end Sunday, July 15. To place an online bid, please visit www.cubs.com/authentics. Proceeds will benefit Cubs Charities.
