From the Wire: Cubs Recall Jeimer Candelario, Option Dylan Floro to Triple-A Iowa

Cubs recall INF Jeimer Candelario from Triple-A Iowa … Option RHP Dylan Floro to Triple-A Iowa

Prior to the first of four against Dusty Baker’s Nationals, the Cubs made two roster moves. INF Jeimer Candelario was recalled from Triple-A Iowa. Joe Maddon inserted Candy into the starting lineup at third base, hitting sixth.

To make room on the active roster, RHP Dylan Floro was sent back to Iowa.

The Cubs’ active roster sits at 13 pitchers (five starters, eight relievers) and 12 position players.

With Addison Russell nursing a sore right shoulder, the Cubs added a position player to the big league club. Candelario is back in the majors for the second time this season.

Jeimer Candelario hit .143 (3-for-21) with a double and two RBI in six games during his first stay last month. With Iowa, Candelario is batting .274 (61-for-223) with 22 doubles, three triples, nine home runs and 41 RBI in 63 games for Iowa this season. Candelario has a .366 on-base percentage and a .520 slugging percentage, good for an .886 OPS.

The switch-hitter made his Major League debut with the Cubs last season, going 1-for-11 (.091) during a brief five-game stint with the club in July.

The 6-foot-1, 210-pound Candelario is a career .271/.353/.430 hitter (720-for-2,657) with 190 doubles, 19 triples, 65 homers and 402 RBI in 721 minor league games covering seven seasons in the Cubs organization.

Dylan Floro, 26, has no record and an 8.53 ERA (six earned runs in 6 1/3 innings) in two outings with the Cubs this season. With Iowa this year, he has gone 2-1 with one save and a 3.48 ERA (13 earned runs in 33 2/3 innings) in 18 appearances, 16 in relief and two as a starter.
