The Cubs roster shuffle continued Saturday as the team switched out relief pitchers with Triple-A Iowa.
The Cubs recalled right-handed pitcher Felix Pena from Triple-A Iowa. Right-handed pitcher Seth Frankoff has been optioned to Triple-A a day after making his big league debut.
Felix Pena will be available for the Cubs on Saturday afternoon as they continue their four-game series against the Colorado Rockies at Wrigley Field.
The 27-year-old Pena joins the Cubs for the third time this season, as he posted no record and a 3.38 ERA (three earned runs in eight innings) in four relief outings during his previous big league stints earlier last month. He is 1-1 with four saves and an 8.31 ERA (16 earned runs in 17 1/3 innings) in 13 relief appearances with Iowa this season. He has struck out 18 batters in 17 1/3 innings. Pena made his big league debut with the Cubs last season and overall has no record and a 3.71 ERA (seven earned runs in 17 innings) in 15 relief outings covering the last two seasons.
The 6-foot-2, 185-pound Pena originally signed with the Cubs as a non-drafted free agent on March 9, 2009 out of San Pedro de Macoris, Dominican Republic. He is 30-40 with 11 saves and a 3.91 ERA (281 earned runs in 646 innings) in 192 minor league appearances (78 starts) covering nine minor league seasons.
Seth Frankoff, 28, made his major league debut yesterday against Colorado and allowed two runs on four hits and no walks, fanning two and taking the loss in the Cubs 5-3 defeat at the hands of the offense. Frankoff is 1-2 with a 2.77 ERA (17 earned runs in 55 1/3 innings) in 11 appearances (nine starts) with Iowa this season.
