Updated 7:33pm CST – Jeff Passan reported the deal for Wade Davis is not done “but there is optimism that something will come together.”
Updated 7:43pm CST – According to Jeff Passan “there could be a snag” in the Wade Davis trade … the deal was not completed “and far from a certain thing at this point.”
Updated 7:54pm CST – The snag in the deal could be Davis’ medicals according to Ken Rosenthal. The Cubs have to make sure Davis is okay after spending time on the DL twice last season with a right flexor strain.
Updated 8:04pm CST – Jayson Stark reported the snag in the deal that would send Wade Davis to the Cubs is a late push by the Nationals. Bruce Levine reported Jorge Soler and another player or two could be involved the Cubs talks with the Royals.
Updated 9:39pm CST – According to Ken Rosenthal, the Cubs are close to acquiring Wade Davis for Jorge Soler.
Updated 9:43pm CST – Jeff Passan reported the Wade Davis–Jorge Soler deal “is seriously down the road” but is not expected to be completed tonight.
Updated 9:56pm CST – According to Bob Nightengale, the Cubs “likely would need more from the Royals for Jorge Soler than just one year of Wade Davis.”
Updated 12:38am CST, Dec. 7 – Bob Nightengale reported the Cubs and Royals have agreed on a deal that would send Jorge Soler to Kansas City for Wade Davis. The trade will be announced Wednesday morning.
According to a report from Jeff Passan, there “is an increasing expectation among interested teams that the Royals will trade Wade Davis … and it could happen soon.”
The Cubs are one of the teams with serious interest in trading for Wade Davis.
The Royals have shown interest in Jorge Soler and he is believed to be part of the talks for Wade Davis.
Bruce Levine reported Tuesday morning that Davis would be a perfect stopgap for the Cubs at closer. Levine said during one of his updates on 670 The Score that the Cubs and Royals were discussing a deal for Davis. The Royals were looking for Soler in return for Davis and the Cubs would like a little more back in the deal.
The Royals have received a lot of inquiries about Davis. As many as six teams could be in the mix for Wade Davis according to Levine.
Updated 7:13pm CST – According to Jon Heyman, the Royals are “seeking young, cost-efficient return” for Wade Davis.
The Royals are looking to compete next season while keeping an eye on the future. The Royals would be able to plug in Jorge Soler in the outfield and/or at DH.
