Add the Royals to what is believed to be a list of American League teams interested in Jorge Soler
T.R. Sullivan reported Monday that the Rangers have interest in acquiring Jorge Soler from the Cubs. And Monday night, Bruce Levine said the Royals like Jorge Soler and that American League teams are “showing a lot of interest” in the Cubs’ outfielder.
The Cubs are one of several teams that have talked to the Royals about Wade Davis. Based on reports from multiple outlets, the Cubs interest in Davis is real and there could be a match between the two teams at some point. It would take more than Soler to acquire Davis from the Royals.
When Jorge Soler is healthy and engaged he has shown he can put up numbers at the plate. Soler has the tools to be a better than average right fielder but he has struggled with consistency in the field. Soler has a cannon for an arm. Soler has trouble reading the ball off a bat and taking the right routes.
Soler could be a very productive designated hitter. And it’s believed he could stay off the disabled list and in the lineup on a team that he had an opportunity to just hit. Soler has tremendous power and an excellent eye at the plate.
In 15 career postseason games, Soler has hit .344/.488/.781 with three doubles, a triple, nine walks and three home runs for a 1.269 OPS. The potential is there. He’s shown it. And in the right situation he has the talent to be one of the best power hitters in the game.
Jorge Soler turns 25 in February and is under club control through the 2020 season.
