Cubs Down on the Farm Report – 12/19/16
As the holidays approach, the action becomes a little sparse in the winter leagues for the Cubs prospects. There was another goodbye this week as outfielder Juan Perez was signed by the Detroit Tigers. Meanwhile, Stephen Fife jumped from the Dominican League to the Venezuelan League. And through it all, Chesny Young just keeps on hitting.

Dominican Winter League
Estrellas Orientales
Orientales emptied out the bullpen in a pitcher’s duel on Wednesday as they lot to Licey 1-0. Juan Paniagua started the fourth inning and gave up a hit and recorded an out before being replaced.
Leones del Escogido
It was a complete effort by Escogido last Monday as they beat Este 4-0. Chesny Young started at third base but shifted over to first base in the seventh inning. Young went 1-for-5 with a run scored in the win.
On Tuesday, the Leones were doubled up by Cibaenas, losing 6-3. It was first base for Chesny Young in this game and he went 1-for-4.
In a make-up game on Thursday, the Lions shredded Cibao 12-5. Chesny Young started the game at first base and switched over to third base in the seventh inning. Young was 1-for-4 with two walks, a run scored and a stolen base in the win.
Saturday saw Escogido use four runs in the second inning to coast past Orientales 5-2. Chesny Young lined up at first base and was 1-for-3 with a walk and a run scored.

Cangrejeros de Santurce
The game was in doubt until the bottom of the ninth on Wednesday, but Santurce prevailed over Caguas 3-2. Corey Black earned his second win as he gave up only a walk in a scoreless ninth.
Criollos de Caguas
In a close contest on Tuesday, Caguas was able to push a run across against Carolina and win 1-0. The eighth once again belonged to Miguel Mejia, as he gave up a hit and had a strikeout in a scoreless inning.
Pitching thwarted first place Santurce on Thursday, as the Criollos came away with a 3-1 victory. Miguel Mejia did what he has done best this winter, locking down the eighth inning with a strikeout.
Sunday saw a doubleheader for the Creoles as they bested Aguadilla in the opener 3-1. Miguel Mejia entered in the fifth and had a walk and a strikeout in a scoreless inning.
Venezuelan Winter League
Aguilas de Zulia
Zulia could not capitalize on 10 hits Friday in falling to Anzoategui 9-2. Bryant Flete started the game at second base, moving to left field in the eighth inning. Flete was 2-for-4 with a double in the loss.
Saturday saw changes for the Aguilas as they were able to top Anzoategui 3-1. Stephen Fife moved over from the Dominican Winter League and gave up a solo home run while striking out six in six innings. Bryant Flete started at second base and was 0-for-3.
Tigres de Aragua
On Thursday, Aragua took control early and ended up cruising to a 5-1 victory over Zulia. Carlos Penalver started the game at shortstop and was 1-for-4 with an RBI in the win.
