Attention this past week turned to Puerto Rico where Corey Black recorded his 12th save and Jacob Hannemann delivered a walk-off home run. Infielders Bryant Flete and Carlos Penalver got some action in Venezuela, while Chesny Young collected eight more hits in the Dominican Republic.

Dominican Winter League
Aguilas Cibaenas
Cibaenas evened their record to 18-18 last Monday with a 5-2 victory over Orientales. Juan Perez started in right field and was 1-for-3 with a double, a walk and a run scored.
While keeping pace with Escogido on Tuesday, the Aguilas could not capitalize on 10 hits as they lost 5-3. Juan Perez contributed by going 2-for-4 with two RBI.
The Eagles got the better of the rematch on Wednesday in thrashing Escogido 8-1. Juan Perez accounted for a quarter of the runs as he was 2-for-3 with a walk and two runs scored.
In the rubber game of the series, Cibaenas was able to turn the tables in beating Escogido 5-3. Juan Perez went 1-for-4 with a run scored in the win.
The Aguilas tried to mount a comeback in the eighth inning on Saturday but fell short as they lost to Licey 2-1. Juan Perez drove in the only run as he was 1-for-2 with two walks.
On Sunday, the Eagles closed out the week with a 3-2 victory over Licey. Juan Perez moved to centerfield from his customary right field and was 1-for-4 with a double in the win.
Estrellas Orientales
On Friday, Orientales looked to be in trouble early but righted the ship in beating Escogido 3-2. Juan Paniagua, the third pitcher of the second inning, snuffed out a rally and struck out four in 2.2 scoreless innings.
Leones del Escogido
The losing streak for Escogido deepened last Monday as they bowed to Cibao 4-2. Chesny Young played third base and was 2-for-5 with a run scored in the loss.
The Leones matched Cibaenas hit for hit on Tuesday and came out ahead in the contest 5-3. Chesny Young was instrumental in the win by going 2-for-3 with two walks, and RBI and two runs scored.
It was turnabout for the Lions on Wednesday as the stumbled against Cibaenas 8-1. Chesny Young gave the offense plenty of opportunities as he was 1-for-2 with two walks and scored the only run.
For the series finale on Thursday, Ecogido flipped Tuesday’s script and lost to Cibaenas 5-3. Chesny Young moved across the diamond to first base and up to third in the order as he went 2-for-4 with an RBI.
On Saturday, the Leones answered three runs in the top of the eighth with three of their own to outlast Este 5-3. Chesny Young once again lined up at first base and was 1-for-4 with a run scored.
Roberto Clemente Professional Baseball League
Cangrejeros de Santurce
Santurce put a little more distance between themselves and Mayaguez on Tuesday with a 3-2 win. Jacob Hannemann continued to struggle as the leadoff man, going 0-for-3 with a walk. However, Corey Black remained steady in the ninth for his 11th save.
It was another close call for the Cangejeros on Wednesday as they beat Carolina 3-2 in 10 innings. Jacob Hannemann ended the contest with a walk-off solo home run in the bottom of the 10th, giving teammate Corey Black the win. Hannemann was 1-for-5 while Black had a strikeout in the 10th inning.
On Thursday, it was a closer game than it needed to be against Aguadilla as the Crabmen won 3-1. It was the golden sombrero for Jacob Hannemann as he went 0-for-4 with four strikeouts. Corey Black registered his 12th save as he had a strikeout in the ninth.
Criollos de Caguas
In a 10-inning affair on Tuesday, Caguas bowed to lowly Aguadilla 5-4. Miguel Mejia gave up a hit but also had a strikeout in a scoreless eighth inning.
The Criollos were able to bounce back on Wednesday and beat Mayaguez 5-3. Miguel Mejia once again owned the eighth inning, striking out two.
Gigantes de Carolina
Carolina continued to struggle to mount an attack as they lost to Mayaguez 2-1 on Thursday. Yasiel Balaguert was 1-for-4 in the loss.
Pitching came through for the Gigantes on Friday as they beat first place Santurce 1-0. Yasiel Balaguert moved up to second in the order and went 1-for-4.
Venezuelan Winter League
Aguilas de Zulia
It was a bruising affair for Zulia on Friday as they were shutout by Lara 8-0. Bryant Flete took over in left field in the seventh inning and was 1-for-2.
Tigres de Aragua
It was a six-run first inning that set up Aragua on Saturday as they beat Magallanes 8-5. Carlos Penalver started at shortstop, but moved over to second base in the eighth and he went 2-for-4.
