Cubs release RHP Spencer Patton … 40-Man Roster Stands at 38 Players
The Cubs released RHP Spencer Patton. The team posted the roster move on its official transactions page Monday. Patton was released Nov. 17, a day before Victor Caratini, Duane Underwood Jr., Jack Leathersich, Jacob Hannemann and David Rollins were added to the roster.
The Cubs 40-man roster officially stands at 38 players.
Spencer Patton appeared in 16 games at the big league level this past season. Patton was 1-1 with a 5.48 ERA, 1.59 WHIP and 5.02 FIP. Patton allowed 16 runs, 13 earned, on 20 hits with 14 walks and 22 strikeouts in 21 1/3 innings.
Patton was 1-0 with a 0.75 ERA and 1.00 WHIP in 35 games with the Iowa Cubs. Patton had 11 saves and allowed four runs, three earned, on 21 hits with 15 walks and 39 strikeouts in 36 innings.
The Cubs acquired Patton from the Rangers on Nov. 20, 2015 for Frandy De La Rosa. Patton pitched in the majors for the Rangers in 2014-15. Patton was 2-1 in 36 games over two seasons with Texas and had a 6.75 ERA, 1.32 WHIP and 4.54 FIP.
In three seasons in the big leagues with the Rangers and Cubs, Spencer Patton is 3-2 with a 6.26 ERA, 1.42 WHIP and 4.73 FIP.
