Cubs Claim RHP Conor Mullee Off Waivers from Yankees … LHP Giovanni Soto Off Waivers by A’s
While the Cubs were busy taking on the Cleveland Indians and winning The World Series, the front office made two roster moves.
The Cubs claimed RHP Conor Mullee off waivers from the New York Yankees. Mullee was officially placed on the 60-day DL on Wednesday. Mullee will be activated from the 60-day DL as soon as Saturday and be added to the 40-man roster.
The Cubs designated LHP Giovanni Soto for assignment in order to activate C/OF Kyle Schwarber from the 60-day DL in order for him to play in the Arizona Fall League. The A’s claimed Soto off waivers from the Cubs on Oct. 26.
The Yankees placed Conor Mullee on the 15-day DL on July 3, retroactive to July 2, with carpal tunnel syndrome-like symptoms. Mullee was transferred to the 60-day DL on Aug. 13.
Conor Mullee appeared in three games for the Yankees last season (2016) and completed only three innings. Mullee allowed one run on no hits with four walks, a HBP and four strikeouts (3.00 ERA, 1.33 WHIP, 5.48 FIP). Mullee made his Major League debut on May 16.
In 26 games, all in relief, over two levels of the Yankees system (Double- and Triple-A), Mullee allowed 6 runs, five earned, on 23 hits with 11 walks and 47 strikeouts in 37 2/3 innings.
Conor Mullee has two minor league options left.
