Jared Porter hired by Diamondbacks as Senior Vice President/Assistant General Manager
The Diamondbacks announced Tuesday that Jared Porter has left the Cubs to become the team’s Senior Vice President/Assistant General Manager under new General Manager Mike Hazen. It was expected Jared Porter would leave the Cubs to take a position with the Diamondbacks due to his relationship with Mike Hazen.
The Cubs hired Jared Porter as the Director of Pro Scouting in September 2015, replacing Joe Bohringer. Porter left the Red Sox at the time to take the position with the Cubs after spending 12 seasons in Boston, the last four as the Director of Pro Scouting.
Porter was reportedly in the mix for the Twins’ GM job and was believed to be of interest to a couple of other teams after spending the last year with the Cubs.
Mike Hazen left the Red Sox in October to become the Diamondbacks Executive Vice President and General Manager. Hazen had the title of General Manager with the Red Sox under Dave Dombrowski. The Sox promoted Hazen to GM after Dombrowski took over baseball operations. Hazen was the Sox assistant GM under Ben Cherington.
Mike Hazen is building a smart front office and field staff in Arizona using the model he saw that worked first hand during his time in Boston.
