The Cubs and Dodgers play Game 2 of the National League Championship Series tonight (7:08pm CDT) at Wrigley Field. Kyle Hendricks is on the hill and will square off against the best pitcher on the planet, Clayton Kershaw. Joe Maddon is sticking with his run prevention lineup behind Hendricks.
Willson Contreras is catching Hendricks, as expected. Addison Russell is batting fifth and playing short. Javier Baez is hitting sixth, up one spot from where Maddon has been batting him. And with the lefty Kershaw on the mound, Jason Heyward is playing right field and hitting eighth.
Cubs batting order: Dexter Fowler CF, Kris Bryant 3B, Anthony Rizzo 1B, Ben Zobrist LF, Addison Russell SS, Javier Baez 2B, Willson Contreras C, Jason Heyward RF, Kyle Hendricks P
Jorge Soler was expected to start in either left or right field in Game 2 against Kershaw. Maddon has decided to take the more calculated risk with Heyward’s defense as opposed to the unknown production Soler could provide at the plate.
The Cubs will begin the game with Miguel Montero, David Ross, Chris Coghlan, Albert Almora Jr. and Jorge Soler on the bench.
It’s imperative the Cubs force Kershaw to work early and not allow him to settle in. If Kershaw gets comfortable, it could be a frustrating night for the offense.
