Cubs prospect Eloy Jimenez is off to a good start in the Arizona Fall League
Eloy Jimenez is making a lot of noise in Arizona this fall. Jimenez and six other Cubs’ prospects are playing ball for the Mesa Solar Sox in the Arizona Fall League. Jimenez has played in four of Mesa’s six games and has picked up where he left off in the minor league season.
Jimenez went hitless in Mesa’s 12-2 thumping of Scottsdale on Monday. Jimenez hit cleanup, played right field and was 0-for-3 with two walks and a run scored.
In four games, Jimenez is 4-for-14 with five walks and a home run for a .974 OPS. Jimenez has scored three runs with two RBI and three strikeouts in 19 plate appearances (.286/.474/.500).
Jimenez recorded the third hardest-hit ball of the year on Thursday according to a report from MiLB.com. One ball Jimenez hit had a 119.4 mph exit velocity and a second had a 112.7 mph exit velocity. And the ball he scorched with the 119.4 mph exit velocity was a groundout to third base.
MLB Pipeline put the 119.4 mph exit velocity into perspective, only Giancarlo Stanton has reached a 119 mph exit velocity in the majors.
Eloy Jimenez is the second youngest player in the AFL, only former teammate Gleyber Torres is younger.
