Two Cubs Prospects Named Northwest League Year-End All-Stars

RHP Dylan Cease, LHP Manuel Rondon named Northwest League Year-End All-Stars

The Northwest League announced its postseason All-Star team this past week. Two of Short-Season Eugene’s starting pitchers made the list, RHP Dylan Cease and LHP Manuel Rondon. And Jesus Feliciano was named the manager of the Year-End All-Star team.

Rondon090716Manuel Rondon, the Northwest League Pitcher of the Year, had a tremendous season for Short-Season Eugene.

Rondon was 6-1 in 12 starts with a 1.10 ERA and 1.26 WHIP. The 21-year old lefty allowed 15 runs, seven earned, on 15 hits with 22 walks and 49 strikeouts in 57 1/3 innings. Rondon was five innings short of qualifying for the league’s ERA title.

Over his final six starts of the season, Rondon was 3-1 with a 0.59 ERA and 1.25 WHIP. Rondon gave up two runs on 25 hits with 13 walks and 25 strikeouts in 30 1/3 innings.

Dylan Cease saved his best for last. Cease dominated Tri-City and Hillsboro in his final two starts of the regular season. Cease was named the Northwest League Pitcher of the Week (Aug. 29-Sept. 5) after allowing one unearned run on three hits with four walks and 18 strikeouts in 10 innings. Cease struck out 10 in five innings with no walks and gave up just one hit against Hillsboro in his last start of the year.

Cease062116Cease posted a 1-0 record in the seven starts after the break with a 1.17 ERA and 1.09 WHIP. Cease allowed five runs, three earned, on eight hits with 17 walks and 43 strikeouts in 23 innings.

Dylan Cease finished the season 2-0 with a 2.22 EERA and 1.16 WHIP. Cease allowed 14 runs, 11 earned, on 27 hits with 25 walks and 66 strikeouts in 12 starts (44 2/3 innings).

The Eugene Emeralds knocked off back-to-back defending champs, the Hillsboro Hops, on Friday and advanced to the Northwest League Finals. The Ems take on Everett at PK Park on Sunday night in game one of the best of three series.
