Cubs prospect 3B Jeimer Candelario makes MLB Pipeline’s Top 100 Prospects list

MLB Pipeline updated its Top 100 Prospects list and added Jeimer Candelario. The Cubs have four players in MLB Pipeline’s ranking of the top prospects in the game … 2B/OF Ian Happ, OF Eloy Jimenez, RHP Dylan Cease and 3B Jeimer Candelario.

Jeimer Candelario checked in at No. 100 on the list. MLB Pipeline considers Ian Happ (22) and Eloy Jimenez (24) two of the top 24 prospects in the game. And Dylan Cease (98) is currently ranked as the top pitching prospect in the Cubs’ system.

Jeimer Candelario, 22, played at two different levels in the system this past season and made his big league debut on July 3. Candelario was optioned back to Iowa six days later.

Candelario, 22, started the season with Double-A Tennessee. Candelario hit .219/.324/.367 with 17 doubles, a triple and four home runs for a .690 OPS in 56 games. Candelario was elected to the Southern League All-Star team.

After performing better than his numbers, Candelario was promoted to Triple-A Iowa on June 8.

During two stints with the Iowa Cubs, Candelario batted .333/.417/.542 with 22 doubles, three triples and nine home runs for a .959 OPS in 76 games. Candelario was named but not able to participate in the SiriusXM All-Star Futures Game due to the call-up to the majors.

Candelario had 14 plate appearances in five big league games and was 1-for-11 with two walks and five strikeouts.

In 132 combined games between Double-A Tennessee and Triple-A Iowa, Candelario hit .283/.376/.464 with 39 doubles, four triples and 13 home runs for a .840 OPS. Candelario had 77 RBI, scored 74 runs and walked 70 times with 99 strikeouts in 553 plate appearances.
