Cubs place 1B Yasiel Balaguert on Inactive List for Mills Cup Championship Series … Add OF Eloy Jimenez from Low-A South Bend to Postseason Roster
The Myrtle Beach Pelicans announced two roster moves Sunday prior to game two of the Mills Cup Championship Series. Yasiel Balaguert was placed on the inactive list due to an undisclosed injury. The Cubs promoted prospect OF Eloy Jimenez from Low-A South Bend to take Balaguert’s spot on the roster.
Eloy Jimenez is starting for the Pelicans, hitting cleanup as the designated hitter in game two against the Hillcats.
Balaguert left Friday’s Game three with an injury. Balaguert set the Pelicans single-season RBI record by driving in 96 runs this season. Balaguert batted .263/.316/.424 with 25 doubles, two triples and 19 home runs. Over the last 49 games, including the postseason, Balaguert was hitting .318/.360/.521 with 18 doubles, two triples, seven home runs and 41 RBI.
Jimenez played in 112 games during the regular season with Low-A South Bend, batting .329/.369/.532 with 40 doubles, three triples, 14 home runs and 81 RBI. Ranked as the No. 2 prospect in the Cubs organization, Jimenez finished first in the Midwest League in doubles and slugging percentage, second in RBI, third in average and fourth in hits. Jimenez was the Midwest League MVP and Prospect of the Year.
South Bend’s season ended Saturday with the completion of game three of the series with West Michigan. The South Bend Cubs lost 4-3.
