Tommy La Stella Close to Reporting to Double-A Tennessee – Updated – La Stella in Wednesday’s Starting Lineup
During his weekly spot on The Spiegel and Goff Show (670 The Score), Joe Maddon said Tommy La Stella is getting close to reporting to Double-A Tennessee.
La Stella needs to get at bats before the Cubs will recall him from the minors. La Stella went home after he was optioned to Triple-A Iowa on July 29. La Stella has worked out at his home in New Jersey with a trainer and taking batting practice but he has not played in a game since July 28.
Maddon said he would report to Double-A Tennessee soon instead of Triple-A Iowa. Maddon is not sure why Double-A instead of Triple-A.
“I really don’t know. It doesn’t really matter. Just get some at bats and get on the field and play,” Maddon said. “There’s really no difference [between Double- and Triple-A].”
Before he decided to leave the team instead of reporting to Triple-A Iowa, Tommy La Stella was batting .295/.388/.457 in 51 games with nine doubles, a triple and two home runs for a .846 OPS.
Joe Maddon said the team has had “some really healthy conversations” with La Stella. Maddon, Theo Epstein and Ken Ravizza have talked with La Stella. Maddon indicated everything is “moving forward” with La Stella.
“Tommy is ready to get back out there,” Maddon said.
