MLB Pipeline’s Updated Cubs Top 30 Prospects Includes Bailey Clark

Fifth round pick RHP Bailey Clark enters Cubs Top 30 Prospects list

MLB Pipeline updated its Top 30 Cubs Prospects list for the second time since the midseason ranking of the best players in the system was released at the end of July.

Clark080816-1RHP Bailey Clark, the fifth round pick in June’s draft, jumped into MLB Pipeline’s Cubs Prospects list at No. 30, joining RHP Thomas Hatch as the second player from this year’s draft to be included in the ranking.

The Cubs’ top five remains unchanged. 2B/OF Ian Happ, OF Eloy Jimenez, 3B, Jeimer Candelario, RHP Dylan Cease and OF Mark Zagunis are considered the top five prospects in the system by MLB Pipeline. Clark enters the list after Carl Edwards Jr., previously ranked as the 14th best prospect in the system, lost his eligibility due to Major League service time.

Bailey Clark began his pro career with the AZL Cubs and was promoted to Short-Season Eugene on Aug. 4. Clark made two starts in the Rookie League, completing five innings. Clark gave up three hits, no runs or walks while striking out four in Arizona.

Clark made his Northwest League debut on Aug. 4 and pitched 2 2/3 innings against Vancouver. Clark allowed two runs, one earned, on four hits with no walks and five strikeouts.

In three starts since signing with the Cubs, Clark has allowed two runs, one earned, on seven hits with no walks and nine strikeouts in 7 2/3 innings (1.17 ERA, 0.91 WHIP).
