Maddon Shakes Up Cubs Batting Order for Second Game with Cardinals

August 12, 2016 10:15 am By Neil Leave a Comment

The Cubs look to make it two in a row over the Cardinals on Friday afternoon (1:20pm CDT) behind Jake Arrieta, if the weather cooperates. The Cubs have to deal with veteran right-hander Adam Wainwright and dodging high, inside fastballs.

Szczur071716Joe Maddon posted his lineup for game two of Round Four with the Cardinals. And Maddon is using a right-handed heavy lineup with several regulars getting the day off.

Matt Szczur is leading off and playing center. Jorge Soler is hitting cleanup and is in right field. Willson Contreras is starting in left. Javier Baez is beginning the game at second base.

Maddon is giving Dexter Fowler, Ben Zobrist and Jason Heyward the day off.

Cubs batting order: Matt Szczur CF, Kris Bryant 3B, Anthony Rizzo 1B, Jorge Soler RF, Addison Russell SS, Willson Contreras LF, Miguel Montero C, Javier Baez 2B, Jake Arrieta P

Adam Wainwright has limited right-handers to a .694 OPS this season, 26 extra basehits (18 doubles, one triple, seven home runs) and a .257/.301/.393 slash line. Left-handers have a .779 OPS with 20 extra basehits (15 doubles, two triples, three home runs) while hitting .306/.357/.421.

The Cubs will begin the game with Ben Zobrist, Jason Heyward, Dexter Fowler, David Ross and Chris Coghlan on the bench.
