Jeimer Candelario’s hitting and on-base streaks came to an end on Saturday in Iowa’s 4-0 win over Omaha. Candelario reached base safely in 31 straight games.
Candelario extended his PCL-best on-base streak to 31 games on Friday by going 3-for-3 with two doubles, a walk and his ninth Triple-A home run, first at Principal Park. Candelario drove in three of the I-Cubs six runs while playing first base.
Candelario’s on-base (31) and hitting (11) streaks came to an end Saturday. Candelario went 0-for-3 with a strikeout, his first in four games.
Jeimer Candelario is batting .323/.410/.541 with 17 doubles, three triples and nine home runs for a .952 OPS in 67 games for the Iowa Cubs. Candelario started the season with Double-A Tennessee where he hit only .219/.324/.367 with 17 doubles, a triple and four home runs.
In 123 games between Double-A Tennessee and Triple-A Iowa, Candelario is hitting .273/.369/.458 with 34 doubles, four triples and 13 home runs for a .827 OPS.
The Cubs are expected to call up several position players from the minors next week when the roster expands on Sept. 1. Candelario and Albert Almora Jr. are on the 40-man roster and will reportedly be added to the Cubs active roster.
