Cubs prospect LHP Jose Paulino named Northwest League Player of the Month for July
Minor League Baseball announced its July Players of the Month for all leagues Friday. And one of the top young arms in the Cubs’ system was recognized for the excellent month he had on the mound.
Jose Paulino earned two Northwest League Pitcher of the Week Awards in July due to simply dominating the league before he was promoted to Low-A South Bend on July 25. Paulino was named Northwest League Player of the Month for July on Friday.
Paulino was 4-0 in four starts in July with a 0.72 and 0.56 WHIP. In 25 innings, Paulino allowed two runs on 12 hits with two walks and 27 strikeouts.
Jose Paulino made six starts for Short-Season Class-A Eugene prior to advancing to the Midwest League and the South Bend Cubs.
With the Emeralds, Paulino was 4-0 with a .051 ERA and 0.63 WHIP. The 21-year old lefty was charged with three runs, two earned, on 19 hits with three walks and 37 strikeouts in 35 innings.
After a solid outing in his Midwest League debut with Low-A South Bend, Paulino was charged with two unearned runs on five hits with two walks and four strikeouts in seven innings in his second start. Paulino made 90 pitches, 53 went for strikes.
In two starts with Low-A South Bend, Paulino is 1-0 with a 2.25 ERA and 1.17 WHIP. In 12 innings (five in debut), Paulino has allowed five runs, three earned, on 10 hits with four walks and eight strikeouts.
Jose Paulino has made a combined eight starts this season between Short-Season Eugene and Low-A South Bend. Paulino is 5-0 with a 0.96 ERA and 0.77 WHIP. In 47 innings, Paulino has given up eight runs, five earned, on 29 hits with seven walks and 45 strikeouts.
