Cubs place RHP Pedro Strop on 15-Day DL … Recall RHP Justin Grimm from Triple-A Iowa
The Cubs placed right-handed pitcher Pedro Strop on the 15-day disabled list with a left meniscus tear and recalled right-handed pitcher Justin Grimm from Triple-A Iowa.
Strop is expected to be sidelined four to six weeks. Strop is scheduled to undergo arthroscopic knee surgery on Friday.
With Thursday’s roster moves, the Cubs 25-man roster consists of 12 pitchers (five starters, seven relievers) and 13 position players
Justin Grimm is available for the Cubs as they begin a four-game series against the St. Louis Cardinals at Wrigley Field.
Justin Grimm, 27, 1-0 with a 4.58 ERA (18 earned run in 35 1/3 innings) and a 1.35 WHIP in 46 relief appearances with the Cubs this season. Grimm has 40 strikeouts in 35 1/3 innings pitched, an average of 10.2 strikeouts per nine innings, while limiting opponents to a .235 batting average, including a .195 mark by right-handed hitters. Grimm has spent most of the season with the Cubs outside of one relief appearance for Iowa on August 1.
Over his last six appearances, Grimm has not allowed a run in five innings while surrendering three hits with a walk and six strikeouts (0.00 ERA, 0.80 WHIP). Grimm has allowed three of 17 inherited runners to score this season.
Pedro Strop, 31, is 2-2 with 21 holds, a 2.89 ERA (14 earned runs in 43 2/3 innings) and a 0.89 WHIP in 50 relief appearances with the Cubs this season. Strop has given up 26 hits with 13 walks and 56 strikeouts.
