Pedro Strop to miss four to six weeks with torn meniscus in left knee … Scheduled for arthroscopic surgery Friday
Pedro Strop is scheduled to undergo arthroscopic surgery on Friday. Recovery time is 4-6 weeks.
The Cubs do not expect this to be a season ending injury for Pedro Strop.
Strop told the beat writers Thursday afternoon that he felt something pop in his knee when he slid to field the ball in the eighth inning of Wednesday’s game. Strop initially thought he was going to miss the remainder of the season.
Strop is confident that the bullpen will be just fine while he’s on the DL.
Justin Grimm has been recalled from Triple-A Iowa to take Strop’s spot in the bullpen.
The Cubs have not officially placed Strop on the DL or recalled Grimm from the minors. Grimm is expected to be available out of the pen Thursday.
Justin Grimm has appeared in 46 games and is 1-0 with a 4.58 ERA, 1.35 WHIP and 3.78 FIP. Grimm has allowed 18 runs on 32 hits with 16 walks and 40 strikeouts in 35 1/3 innings. Over his last six appearances, Grimm has not allowed a run in five innings while surrendering three hits with a walk and six strikeouts (0.00 ERA, 0.80 WHIP).
Grimm has allowed three of 17 inherited runners to score this season.
